Jacob Serves Laban
Jacob stayed with Laban and soon fell deeply in love with Rachel. She was described in Scripture as “beautiful in form and appearance,” while Leah, her elder sister, was said to have “weak eyes,” meaning she was less attractive in comparison.
Laban asked Jacob what wages he wanted for working with him. Instead of asking for money or possessions, Jacob offered to work for seven years in exchange for Rachel’s hand in marriage. Laban agreed, and Jacob served him faithfully.
The Bible describes those seven years as seeming “like only a few days” to Jacob because of the great love he had for Rachel. His devotion and patience showed the depth of his affection.

When the seven years were complete, Jacob asked Laban for Rachel so they could marry. Laban prepared a feast and brought Jacob his bride. However, in the evening, when the bride was veiled and it was dark, Laban deceived Jacob by giving him Leah instead of Rachel.
